Ghanaian Politician and a member of the New Democratic Congress
Hon. Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw was born in Techimantia in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana on 23 July 1972.
Hanna Louisa Bissiw received her primary education at the Local Authority Roman Catholic School at Techimentia and later continued her education at the Kumasi Girls' Secondary School, where she obtained her Ordinary Level Certificate (O'Level). She later acquired a scholarship during Rawling’s regime to study in DVM, Agrarian University of Havana, Cuba in 1999 where she studied Veterinary Medicine.
Upon her return to Ghana, Hanna Bissiw worked with Veterinary Hospitals and engaged in projects that fostered collaboration between Ghana and Cuba.
It was in 2008 that she began her political career. She initially joined the NDC Manifesto Committee, and her dedication and hard work soon led her to higher positions within the government.
Hanna Bissiw served as the Deputy Minister of State at the Ministry of Water Resources, Works, and Housing (MWRWH) in 2009. Later, she assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
In 2010, the Daily Searchlight published an undercover investigation suggesting that she was the owner of a luxurious multi-bedroom double mansion under construction in Techimantia, her hometown. She defended herself by claiming that the property was acquired through a government loan.
Hanna Bissiw became a Member of Parliament for Tano South in 2012.
In 2014, the Daily Guide reported details of her extravagant birthday celebration where she was gifted a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado worth $120,000. The lavish event was dubbed a "mega party," and Hanna Bissiw attributed the expensive gift to her wealthy husband. These allegations only added to the public scrutiny surrounding her financial affairs.
Despite her political prowess, Hanna Bissiw faced a significant setback in the 2016 parliamentary elections. She lost her parliamentary seat in the Tano South Constituency, which led to more controversy. Some constituents accused her of trying to retrieve hospital supplies that she had earlier donated to a hospital in her constituency.
