Stephen Asamoah Boateng is a Ghanaian politician and a former Member of Parliament for the Mfantsiman West constituency and has previously held ministerial positions.
Boateng was born in Konongo, in Ghana's Ashanti Region. He completed his elementary education at Konongo Methodist Primary School, middle school at Kormantse District Assembly and Jasikan Roman Catholic Middle School, and senior high school at Konongo/Odumase Senior High School.Boateng received his undergraduate degree from the University of Ghana, and he afterwards attended Henley Management College in Oxfordshire, England, to earn his master's degree in business administration.
He was employed by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals' American Medical Systems (AMS) as a marketing consultant.He worked as a housing officer for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and as a business advisor for Business Link in London. At the Ghana Medical Stores in Kumasi, he held a position as a store assistant while serving as a public worker.
He served as the president of the Madina Students Union and the central committee secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).
Former representative for Ghana's Central Region's Mfantsiman West constituency. He served as the previous minister of local government, rural development, environment, tourism, and relations with the diaspora. Boateng has also held the positions of chief executive officer of the State Enterprise Committee and minister of information and national orientation. He presently serves as the State Interest and Governance Authority's (SIGA) Director General.
He is a Christian. He is married to Zuleika Lorwia, with whom he has seven children including Samuel Nana Yaw Boateng.
