Tim Scott

Timothy Eugene Scott was born on September 19, 1965, in North Charleston, South Carolina. Scott grew up in a single-parent household, with his mother working 16-hour days as a nursing assistant to support him and his siblings. Despite these challenges, Scott excelled in school and became a successful businessman before entering politics.

Tim Scott was elected to the United States House of Representatives on November 2, 2010, representing South Carolina's 1st congressional district. Scott became the first African-American Republican elected to the House from South Carolina since Reconstruction. During his time in Congress, he served on key committees and focused on issues such as tax reform and job creation.

On January 2, 2013, Tim Scott was appointed to the United States Senate by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, following the resignation of Senator Jim DeMint. Scott became the first African-American senator from the Southern United States since 1881.
