Richard Blumenthal

Richard Blumenthal was born on February 13, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in a family of Jewish descent. Blumenthal attended Harvard College, where he was editorial chairman of the Harvard Crimson and graduated magna cum laude. Later, he attended Yale Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal and graduated with his Juris Doctor in 1973. These formative academic experiences set the foundation for his later career in law and politics.

In the 2010 United States Senate election in Connecticut, Richard Blumenthal was elected as a U.S. Senator. He succeeded Chris Dodd, who retired after 30 years in office. Blumenthal was the Democratic Party candidate and faced Linda McMahon, the Republican nominee. He won the election with 55% of the vote after a campaign during which he addressed scrutiny over his military service record. His tenure began on January 3, 2011.
