In March 2020, the Nanyang Technological University's AI Research Team made significant breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI), positioning the university at the forefront of AI technology development. The team focused on machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, advancing the capabilities of AI systems. These achievements have applications in various industries and contribute to addressing complex societal challenges, highlighting NTU's commitment to innovation and technological leadership.

NTU launched its Sustainability Manifesto in August 2019, committing to achieving exponential change in sustainability by 2021. The manifesto outlined strategic goals to reduce water usage, carbon emissions, and waste on campus. It also focused on integrating sustainability into educational and research activities, showcasing NTU's leadership in sustainability and its dedication to creating a sustainable future through education, research, and community engagement.

In October 2016, NTU was ranked 1st in the QS Top 50 Under 50 rankings, which lists the world's best universities under 50 years old. This achievement marked a significant milestone for NTU as it moved up from its previous second-place position, showcasing its rapid growth and development in education and research. The ranking highlighted NTU's strong academic reputation, citations per faculty, and international faculty and student body.

NTU introduced a new Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Science and Management in August 2015. This program was the first of its kind in Singapore, integrating sports science with management and business knowledge. It aims to prepare students for careers in the sports, health, and fitness industries by combining expertise in sports performance, health, and fitness with skills in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship.

NTU launched the Nanyang Institute of Technology in Health and Medicine in April 2013 to address the pressing health challenges of the 21st century. The institute focuses on interdisciplinary research bridging engineering, science, and medicine to develop innovative solutions to improve health and wellbeing. By leveraging NTU's technological strengths, the institute aims to contribute significantly to the advancement of healthcare technologies.

In September 2011, NTU announced the creation of a new media arts school in collaboration with Lasalle College of the Arts. This partnership was designed to foster the integration of art and technology, combining the strengths of NTU's technology and engineering with Lasalle's art and design expertise. The collaboration aimed to produce graduates with a unique blend of artistic creativity and technological skills to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world.

NTU partnered with Imperial College London to set up Singapore's third medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), in 2013. Announced in 2006, the school was part of Singapore's strategy to increase the capacity and quality of its medical education. LKCMedicine's innovative curriculum and approach to medical education have been instrumental in training future doctors with a focus on teamwork, creativity, and innovation.
