Michelle Fischbach Sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives
On January 3, 2021, Michelle Fischbach officially assumed office as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Representing Minnesota’s 7th congressional district, she succeeded Collin Peterson, who held the position for nearly three decades. Her entry into Congress marked a significant transition as she joined the Republican Party's ranks in the House. Fischbach's election was part of a broader shift in the political landscape, as the GOP sought to strengthen its presence in traditionally Democratic areas. Her background includes serving as Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor from January 2018 to January 2019 and as a member of the Minnesota State Senate from 1996 to 2018, where she made history as the Senate’s first female president in 2011. In her new role, Fischbach focused on policies close to her constituents, including agriculture, rural development, and conservative fiscal policies.
