Kathy Castor

Kathy Castor was born on August 20, 1966, in Miami, Florida. She was raised in Tampa, Florida. Her mother, Betty Castor, was also a prominent political figure and educator. Kathy followed in her mother's footsteps and pursued a career in law and public administration before entering politics herself. Kathy Castor was elected to the United States House of Representatives on November 7, 2006. She became the representative for Florida's 11th congressional district, succeeding Jim Davis. Castor became the first woman to represent this district, winning with a significant majority.
