Emanuel Cleaver

Emanuel Cleaver II was born on October 26, 1944, in Waxahachie, Texas. He would go on to become a prominent American politician of the Democratic Party. Cleaver attended Prairie View A&M University, where he graduated in 1968, and later became a minister in the United Methodist Church. His early life in Texas and education set the foundation for his later career in politics and public service.

On April 9, 1991, Emanuel Cleaver was elected as the Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri. He served as mayor until 1999, becoming the first African American to hold this position.
