Earl Blumenauer

Earl Blumenauer was elected to the Portland City Council in 1987. During his tenure on the council, he became known for his advocacy on issues such as urban planning, parks and environmental protection, and transportation infrastructure. He played a central role in pushing for light rail expansion and the construction of the Portland Streetcar. His work helped transform Portland into a national model for sustainable urban development.

In 1996, Earl Blumenauer won a special election to represent Oregon's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He succeeded Ron Wyden, who had vacated the seat to serve in the U.S. Senate. Since then, Blumenauer has been re-elected to his congressional seat numerous times.
