Atlantica Cesenatico, one of the largest water parks on the Adriatic coast, opened its doors to the public in 1981. Designed as a major attraction for both locals and tourists, it features numerous pools, slides, and water games. Over the years, Atlantica has become not only a place for family fun and leisure but also a significant contributor to the local economy by boosting tourism and creating jobs in the region.

During World War II, Cesenatico found itself at the center of military operations as Allied forces advanced through Italy against German defenses. On October 5, 1944, the Battle of Cesenatico took place, resulting in the liberation of the town from Axis control. The battle was part of a broader campaign to breach the Gothic Line. On August 2, 1849, Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian national hero, arrived in Cesenatico while fleeing from Austrian and Papal troops after the fall of the Roman Republic. Despite exhausted and being pursued, Garibaldi was received by local patriots, and managed to find a boat to continue his escape to Venice.

This transfer of control was significant as it placed Cesenatico under the direct administrative control of the Vatican, which influenced its governance and cultural development during the Restoration period. The Porto Canale Leonardesco, originally sketched by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502, saw major completion work being done in 1780, finalizing its design which had transformed it into a key maritime hub for Cesenatico. The canal served as an essential point for trade and travel, contributing to the economic growth of the region. This strategic waterway remains a historic and functional centerpiece of Cesenatico, showcasing da Vinci's enduring legacy.

In 1500, Leonardo da Vinci visited the town of Cesenatico on behalf of Cesare Borgia to inspect and document the port. Da Vinci made detailed drawings and plans for the reconstruction of the port of Cesenatico, focusing on improving its design and functionality to strengthen the town's trading capabilities and defenses. This reconstruction was significant for the strategic and commercial development of Cesenatico.
