Question 2

When was Cancún founded?

Accepted Answer

Cancún was officially designated as a tourist development project by the Mexican government in 1970, but it is widely considered that the city itself began in 1974. This was when the infrastructure and first hotels were constructed as part of the government plan.

Question 3

What was Cancún like before development?

Accepted Answer

Before its development, Cancún was a narrow, deserted island populated by a small number of Maya fishing families. It was largely undeveloped and covered in tropical jungle and mangroves.

Question 4

How did Cancún become a major tourist destination?

Accepted Answer

Cancún became a major tourist destination due to a strategic development plan by the Mexican government. In 1968, the Mexican government earmarked the area as a desirable location for a new resort. The plan involved constructing a series of luxury hotels along the picturesque beaches, which attracted a large influx of international tourists.
