Brian Babin

Brian Babin first entered politics as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. He was first elected to office on January 29, 1999. His early political career in Texas set the stage for his subsequent roles in public service, providing him the platform to engage in legislative processes and community issues.

After serving in the Texas House of Representatives, Brian Babin remained active in local politics by being elected to the Woodville City Council in 2004. His role on the council allowed him to apply his legislative experience at the municipal level, focusing on community development, local governance, and civic engagement.

In 2014, Brian Babin was elected to represent Texas's 36th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. Babin's election to Congress marked a significant step in his political career, allowing him to bring his experience from state and local politics to a national platform.

Brian Babin was officially sworn into the 114th United States Congress on January 6, 2015. As a U.S. Representative, Babin focused on issues such as healthcare reform, veterans' affairs, and infrastructure development, quickly establishing himself as an active member of Congress.

On July 1, 2017, Brian Babin introduced the TREAT Act, aimed at giving states more control over Medicaid policies. The legislation proposed significant changes to the federal oversight of Medicaid, advocating for increased flexibility in how states administer and regulate healthcare for low-income residents.

Brian Babin has been an outspoken advocate for NASA and the space industry. On September 25, 2018, he emphasized the importance of space exploration and advocated for increased funding and support for NASA initiatives, recognizing the economic and scientific benefits they bring to the nation.

Babin co-sponsored the Resilient Federal Forests Act on September 16, 2019, aimed at expediting forest management activities and reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires. This legislation was part of a broader effort to enhance forest conservation while promoting responsible environmental stewardship.

On June 18, 2020, Brian Babin introduced the You’ve Earned It Act, which sought to provide financial relief to American workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This legislation aimed to ease economic burdens by offering tax relief and bolstering social safety nets during the economic downturn.

On January 6, 2021, Brian Babin was among the members of Congress who objected to the certification of electoral votes. His objection was part of a broader controversy surrounding the 2020 presidential election, reflecting divisions within the Republican Party and the country over election integrity and processes.

Brian Babin re-introduced the BORDER Act on February 9, 2023, aimed at enhancing border security measures and revising immigration policies. The legislation reflects ongoing debates regarding immigration reform and national security, emphasizing Babin's commitment to strong border enforcement.
