Al Gore

Al Gore was born Albert Arnold Gore Jr. on March 31, 1948, in Washington, D.C. He was the second of two children of Albert Gore Sr., a U.S. Representative who later became a U.S. Senator from Tennessee, and Pauline LaFon Gore, one of the first women to graduate from Vanderbilt University Law School. Gore was raised in Carthage, Tennessee, and in Washington, D.C., throughout his childhood.

On November 2, 1976, Al Gore was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent Tennessee's 4th Congressional District. This marked the beginning of his political career at the federal level, where he served four terms in the House before moving on to the Senate. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as arms control and telecommunications.

On January 20, 1993, Al Gore was inaugurated as the 45th Vice President of the United States under President Bill Clinton. During his two terms as Vice President, Gore was an active participant in the administration, advocating for policies on environmental protection, information technology, and government efficiency.

On December 13, 2000, Al Gore formally conceded the U.S. presidential election to George W. Bush following the Supreme Court decision in Bush v. Gore. The election was one of the closest in U.S. history and involved a contentious recount in Florida. Gore won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College, which ultimately decided the presidency.

On May 24, 2006, "An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary film about climate change featuring Al Gore, was released. The film, which presents a compelling case for the dangers of climate change and the need for urgent action, was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and raised public awareness on global warming.

On October 12, 2007, Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize alongside the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures needed to counteract such change. This was a significant recognition of Gore's work on climate issues.

On November 18, 2008, Al Gore joined the board of directors of Apple Inc. Gore had previously been acquainted with Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs and was invited to join the company's board. His involvement in Apple is part of his continued engagement with technology and sustainability initiatives, areas that align with his interests and advocacy work.

On December 8, 2008, Al Gore published "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis," a sequel to his book "An Inconvenient Truth." In "Our Choice," Gore explores the solutions to the climate crisis, providing a comprehensive look at the possibilities for reducing carbon emissions and addressing global warming. It serves as a call to action for individuals, organizations, and governments.

On January 2, 2013, Al Jazeera Media Network announced its acquisition of Current TV, a progressive cable news network co-founded by Al Gore. This acquisition allowed Al Jazeera to expand its presence in the United States with the launch of Al Jazeera America. Gore and his business partners reportedly received a significant financial return from the sale.

On July 28, 2017, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power," the follow-up to the original climate change documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," was released. The sequel follows Al Gore as he continues his fight to address the climate crisis and influence international climate policy. The film documents Gore's work since the release of the first film, emphasizing the urgency of climate action.
