Establishment of University of Karachi

The University of Karachi was established by an act of the parliament of Pakistan in June 1951. Initially, the University was housed in small buildings adjacent to Civil Hospital on M.A. Jinnah Road, Karachi, before relocating to its current location in 1962. Its foundation was meant to cater to the higher education needs of the city and to provide research opportunities especially after the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
