Londrina

Londrina was officially founded on December 10, 1930. The city emerged as part of a major agricultural expansion in Brazil, primarily driven by coffee cultivation. It was established by the British-owned Paraná Plantations Company, which saw great potential in the region’s fertile land. Londrina grew rapidly in its early years, attracting a diverse population of European immigrants who contributed to its development.

The Estádio do Café, a major football stadium in Londrina, was inaugurated on August 8, 1973. This stadium became an important venue for sports and cultural events in the region, with a seating capacity of approximately 31,000. Over the years, it has hosted numerous football matches, including those of Londrina Esporte Clube, and significant events in the city’s history.

The Universidade Estadual de Londrina (State University of Londrina) was established in 1970 and formally recognized in 1996. It has grown into one of the renowned institutions in the state of Paraná, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. The university has contributed significantly to the educational and cultural development of Londrina and the surrounding region.

On May 19, 2010, a small aircraft crashed in a residential area of Londrina shortly after takeoff, causing multiple fatalities and injuries. The tragic incident drew significant media attention and prompted investigations into flight safety practices. In November 2015, Londrina experienced a significant public transportation strike initiated by the city's bus drivers and related workers.
