Lil Wayne

Rapper Lil Wayne was born on September 27, 1982, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.

Lil Wayne signed to Cash Money Records on November 8, 1994. The rapper became the youngest member of the label. The label was largely controlled by Birdman and Slim.

One year after signing with Cash Money Records, the rapper accidentally shot himself in the chest. It was reported that the bullet missed his heart by 2 inches.

Lil Wayne’s first child, Reginae Carter was born on November 28, 1998. 

‘Tha Block is Hot’ was released by rapper Lil Wayne under the Cash Money Records Label on August 9, 1999. The album sold more than 1 million units in the United States and became certified platinum. 

‘Lights Out’, Lil Wayne’s second solo album was released on December 19, 2000. This was the first project where Lil Wayne used explicit language. The rapper dedicated a song on this album to his stepfather. The song was called ‘The Rabbit’.

Wayne’s third solo album, ‘500 Degreez’ was released on July 23, 2002. The album featured the hit single, ‘Way of Life’. The album’s name was based on Juvenile’s previous release, ‘400 Degreez’.

On February 14, 2004, Lil Wayne got married to Antonia “Toya” Carter. The two met at high school and have been in an intimate relationship up until the point of marriage.

Rapper Lil Wayne released his fourth studio album titled ‘Tha Carter’ on June 29, 2004. The album was released under Cash Money Records and Universal Records. The production of the album was managed by Mannie Fresh. Fresh was once the in-house producer of Cash Money Records.

Lil Wayne got enrolled at the University of Houston on August 14, 2005.

After earning much recognition and respect in the world of music, Lil Wayne was named as the President of Cash Money Records.

Lil Wayne released ‘Tha Carter II’ on December 6, 2005. This is the first project released by Lil Wayne that did not feature any work from Mannie Fresh.

Birdman and Lil Wayne’s relationship was very close at this time. The two were always seen together in the media and would frequently do music together. The two created and released an album by the name of ‘Like Father Like Son’ on October 26, 2006.

Lil Wayne was charged with possession of marijuana and a firearm. His arrest came after a performance in New York City. The rapper was later locked up on felony charges on January 22, 2008.

On September 9, 2009, Lil Wayne and Lauren London’s son Lennox Samuel Ari was born.

After forming his own group of talented rappers and singers, Lil Wayne brought the team together for an album titled ‘We Are Young Money’. The album was released on December 23, 2009. 

Lil Wayne released ‘Rebirth’, his seventh studio album on February 10, 2010. This was his first rock album

Mr. Carter stated to serve his one-year prison sentence at Rikers Island on March 28, 2010. The rapper was released eight months later for good behavior.

When Lil Wayne returned from prison, it seems as if the rapper immediately got to work on his next project. The rapper released ‘The Carter IV’ on August 29, 2011. 

Lil Wayne welcomed his son, Dwayne III, into the world on October 22, 2011.

The world had been waiting for a long time for ‘Tha Carter V’. After completing the album, Lil Wayne was faced with many obstacles in trying to release the album. After a blazing reveal of the album’s release date during Sprite’s NBA All-Star concert at the House of Blues in New Orleans, the rapper was forced to issue an apology for the album’s delay on December 4, 2014. The rapper later had issues with his record label and eventual sued Birdman for $51 million.

The official announcement was made on June 7, 2018, that Lil Wayne was freed from his contract with Cash Money Records.

After years of waiting, Lil Wayne was finally able to release ‘Tha Carter V’ on September 27, 2018. The album debuted at the number one spot on the US Billboard 200 chart. Every track from this project made it to the Billboard 100. The rapper had 4 songs in the top 10 list simultaneously.

The rapper released ‘Funeral’ on January 31, 2020. The album debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200. Overall, the album received a lot of positive feedback.

Young Money Radio was launched by Lil Wayne and Dash Road on Apple Music. The show features discussions on such topics as sports, music, comedy, and everything else that you can think of.
