Assassination of John F. Kennedy

On October 26, 2017, the U.S. government released thousands of previously classified documents related to the assassination of President Kennedy. While many documents were made public, some were withheld for national security reasons, continuing the public's interest in the case.

The President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act was signed into law on October 26, 1992. This act mandated the release of government documents related to the assassination, leading to the declassification of thousands of files over the following decades.

President Lyndon B. Johnson established the Warren Commission on November 29, 1963, to investigate the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The commission, led by Chief Justice Earl Warren, was tasked with examining the evidence and circumstances surrounding the assassination.

On November 24, 1963, Lee Harvey Oswald was shot and killed by nightclub owner Jack Ruby while being transferred from the city jail to the county jail. This event was broadcast live on television, further fueling conspiracy theories about the assassination of President Kennedy.

On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated while traveling in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The assassination shocked the nation and the world, leading to widespread mourning and conspiracy theories about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested on the same day as the assassination of President Kennedy. He was apprehended in a movie theater in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, after being identified as the prime suspect in the shooting of the President and a Dallas police officer, J.D. Tippit.
