Zapopan

Zapopan, a city and municipality in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, was founded on December 8, 1530. It was part of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. The city is named after its Indigenous roots, with the word 'Zapopan' originating from the Nahuatl language, meaning 'among the sapote trees'. Over time, Zapopan has grown into a significant cultural and economic center within the Greater Guadalajara area.

On May 27, 1824, following the Mexican War of Independence, Zapopan was incorporated into the Free and Sovereign State of Jalisco as part of the newly-formed Mexican federation. In 1935, Zapopan was officially designated a municipality within Jalisco.
