On January 8, 2011, a mass shooting occurred in Casas Adobes, near Tucson, Arizona. A gunman opened fire at a constituent meeting held by U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords in the parking lot of a Safeway supermarket. Six people were killed, and thirteen others were injured, including Giffords, who was shot in the head.

On August 1, 1981, the Sun Tran bus service began operations in Tucson, providing public transportation across the city. This was a major improvement in the city's transit infrastructure, offering residents and visitors a reliable and efficient means of transportation. Sun Tran has since become an integral part of Tucson's public transportation system.

Tucson was founded on August 20, 1776, as a Spanish fort called Presidio San Agustín del Tucsón. Established to secure Spain's claim to the Pimería Alta region in modern-day Arizona, Tucson has since grown from a small military outpost to a vibrant city. It played an important role in the development of the Southwestern United States.
