Si Racha

Si Racha was established as a district in Chonburi Province, Thailand, on December 3, 1934. The district's administration was organized by a ministerial regulation to oversee the regions along the eastern seaboard of Thailand. It became a center for trade due to its strategic location near the Gulf of Thailand.

The Sriracha Tiger Zoo opened its doors to the public as a zoo located in Si Racha, Chonburi Province, Thailand. Known for its large population of tigers and other animals, the zoo became a major tourist attraction. The zoo offers interesting tiger shows, crocodile wrestling, and a variety of exotic animal displays.

The Si Racha Industrial Park was officially opened in January 2000. This facilitated the growth of manufacturing and industrial activities in the region. The industrial park attracted numerous businesses, contributing to economic growth and providing employment opportunities for the local community.

Bangpra International Golf Club, one of the oldest golf courses in Thailand located near Si Racha, was revamped and reopened in March 2006. This 18-hole course is revered for its challenging layout and natural beauty, attracting golfers from around the world. Its proximity to Bangkok makes it a popular choice for weekend golfers.

In response to increasing foreign investment policies, November 2008 marked a significant influx of Japanese automotive factories setting up in Si Racha. This development contributed to the area's economic growth and transformed it into a significant industrial hub, fostering job creation and technology transfer in the region.

The major expansion of Laem Chabang Port, which serves the Si Racha area, was completed in June 2013. This expansion significantly increased the port's capacity, strengthening its position as Southeast Asia's shipping hub. The expansion involved the addition of new berths and state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate larger vessels.

The expansion of Chonburi Highway 7, which links Si Racha to Bangkok, was completed in October 2014. This project was part of a larger effort to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on one of Thailand's busiest routes. The highway upgrade included additional lanes, enhanced safety features, and better signage.

The construction of the Si Racha Green Bridge was initiated as part of the region's sustainability and infrastructure improvement plans. This bridge project aimed to improve local transportation while considering environmental impacts, using eco-friendly construction methods and materials. The project aligns with Thailand's broader environmental goals.

Si Racha, like many other districts in Thailand, was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting March 26, 2020, strict lockdown measures were imposed. Businesses, schools, and public venues were closed, and travel restrictions were enforced to curb the spread of the virus. The local economy suffered due to reduced tourism and disrupted supply chains.
