Nikita Mazepin

Nikita Dmitryevich Mazepin was born on March 2, 1999, in Moscow, Russia. Son of businessman Dmitry Mazepin, he developed an early interest in motorsports, which his family supported financially. Growing up against the backdrop of Russia's emerging motorsport scene, he began karting at an early age, setting the stage for his career in racing.

Nikita Mazepin competed in the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship with the ART Grand Prix team. Though it was a challenging season, he finished on the podium in Sochi, securing valuable experience and exposure on an international stage. The experience helped hone his skills in a highly competitive environment, shaping him as a driver pursuing a future in Formula 1.

In December 2020, Nikita Mazepin signed a contract to drive for the Haas F1 Team for the 2021 Formula 1 season. This move followed his performance in Formula 2 and was coupled with significant financial backing from his father's company, Uralkali. The signing was part of Haas' strategy to rejuvenate the team with young talent and financial support.

Nikita Mazepin made his Formula 1 debut with Haas F1 Team at the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix, marking the entry of a new Russian driver into the prestigious racing series. Unfortunately, his debut race was short-lived as he spun out and retired on the first lap, setting a learning curve for the remainder of the season.

During the 2021 Formula 1 season, Nikita Mazepin achieved his best finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he ended the race in 14th place. Despite driving one of the least competitive cars on the grid, Mazepin's performance was commendable and demonstrated his perseverance and intent to improve in every race.

The 2021 Formula 1 season ended with Nikita Mazepin concluding his rookie year with Haas. In June 2022, Nikita Mazepin initiated legal proceedings against the Haas F1 Team, alleging wrongful termination of his contract. Mazepin sought compensation and clarity on his future in motorsport following the abrupt end to his Formula 1 career amidst the ongoing global issues. The case highlighted the complexities of sport-business relationships.

Nikita Mazepin announced his transition from Formula 1 to rally racing in August 2022, seeking to revive his racing career through participation in different forms of motorsport. This transition was seen as a way to leverage his driving skills in a new and challenging environment, offering him continued involvement in competitive racing.

In January 2023, Nikita Mazepin made his debut in the Asian Le Mans Series, marking a shift to endurance racing.
