Hailing from Kumasi, Mohammed Salisu began his football journey at Kumasi Barcelona Babies before joining West African Football Academy in 2013, leaving in 2015, and after a year without a club, he caught the attention of African Talent Football Academy and eventually joined Real Valladolid's youth setup in October 2017.

After initially withdrawing from the Ghana national team due to injury and speculations of disinterest, Mohammed Salisu's family clarified that he is proud to represent Ghana, and in July 2022, it was officially announced that he agreed to play for the Black Stars; he made his debut in September 2022 and scored his first goal in a friendly against Switzerland.
