Jordan announced his retirement on October 6, 1993. He stated that he was stepping away from the game because he lost interest in playing. He later shared that the murder of his father had somewhat shaped his decision. Jordan’s Father is Murdered

On July 23, 1993, Michael Jordan’s father, James Raymond Jordan. Sr. was murdered at a rest stop on Interstate 95. Jordan’s father was traveling home from a funeral eight days before his birthday. He grew tired so he pulled into the rest stop to take a nap. Larry Martin Demery desired to rob James Raymond Jordan, Sr. so he shot him and then stole his car. Jordan’s fathers’ body was not found until August 3. It was later positively identified on August 13.

Michael Jordan broke his leg in his second season. This caused the basketball player to miss 64 games; nevertheless, he had a record-breaking second season. He scored 63 games in Game 2 of the playoffs. This is the most points that have ever been scored in a playoff match by one player.
