McGill University

The Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning was officially granted the Royal Charter by King George IV on March 31, 1821. This chartered the establishment of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, named after James McGill, a Scottish merchant whose bequest formed the university's founding endowment.
