2021 Turkey Wildfires
In the summer of 2021, Turkey experienced one of the most devastating wildfire seasons in its history, affecting various regions, including Marmaris. Beginning in late July and continuing into early August, the fires were fueled by extreme heat and dry weather conditions, exacerbated by climate change. Marmaris, a popular tourist destination, saw large areas of forest and many homes threatened by the rapidly spreading fires. Firefighters, volunteers, and local citizens worked tirelessly to contain the blazes and protect communities, but the fires dealt severe damage to the natural environment and local economies dependent on tourism.
