Hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues in Marmaris faced unprecedented closures, leading to severe economic impacts. The pandemic also prompted changes in public health measures, with increased focus on sanitation and social distancing. As the situation evolved, Marmaris adapted to a new normal, prioritizing safety while slowly reopening its economy.

On July 15, 2016, a faction of the Turkish Armed Forces attempted a coup d'état against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The coup involved military actions in several major cities and led to clashes and bombings. In Marmaris, President Erdoğan was vacationing at the time. As the coup unfolded, he narrowly escaped an attack on his hotel by rogue soldiers. The inaugural Marmaris International Race Week took place on May 10, 2008, establishing an annual sailing event that attracted competitors from around the world. On September 10, 2000, Marmaris saw the opening of Atlantis Water Park, a major attraction in the area offering a variety of water-based entertainment and recreational activities. The park features multiple water slides, a wave pool, and several children-friendly attractions. Atlantis Water Park quickly became a staple for both local residents and tourists, providing a family-friendly venue for fun and relaxation. It contributed to Marmaris's reputation as a vibrant tourism center in Turkey's Aegean region.

In July 1996, Netsel Marina underwent a significant expansion, enhancing its capacity to accommodate a larger number of yachts and watercraft. Located in Marmaris, the marina is one of the largest on the Turkish Riviera and plays a crucial role in the local tourism and yachting industries. The expansion project included upgrading facilities and services to better serve international visitors. Netsel Marina, since its expansion, has been a key destination for sea tourism, hosting numerous national and international sailing events.

The inception of Blue Voyage tourism in Marmaris began around May 23, 1979. This form of sea expedition, also known as Blue Cruise, offers trips along Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts on traditional wooden gulets. It quickly became a highly popular tourist activity, drawing travelers to explore the hidden coves, ancient ruins, and crystal-clear waters of the Turkish coastline. Blue Voyage tourism played an integral role in developing Marmaris as a premier travel destination, significantly boosting its local economy.

Marmaris Yacht Marina was established on November 20, 1978, providing a premier facility for yachting enthusiasts in Turkey. The marina offered state-of-the-art docking facilities for a variety of watercraft, helping to solidify Marmaris as a hub for nautical tourism. Over the years, Marmaris Yacht Marina has been expanded and upgraded to cater to the growing demand from international and domestic visitors, contributing significantly to the local economy and supporting the region's status as a key player in the maritime industry.

The 1958 Marmaris earthquake occurred on September 25 and was a strong seismic event that once again shook the southwestern region of Turkey, including the town of Marmaris. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 and caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure in the town. It was part of a sequence of seismic activities affecting the region, prompting ongoing concerns and efforts to improve earthquake preparedness and building resilience.
