On October 25, 2010, La Spezia and the surrounding regions experienced a severe flooding event that caused massive destruction to infrastructure and landscapes. Homes and roads were inundated, and the damage required significant emergency response efforts and rebuilding in the following months. On June 13, 1995, the breathtaking coastal landscape of Cinque Terre, near La Spezia, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
