Geisinger Health System was founded on November 17, 1912, by Abigail Geisinger in Danville, Pennsylvania. This healthcare system began as a single hospital, the George F. Geisinger Memorial Hospital, named in memory of her husband. Today, Geisinger is a highly integrated health services organization known for its innovation and quality care. It operates multiple hospitals and employs thousands of healthcare professionals to serve millions of patients across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

In 2005, Geisinger Health System implemented an innovative model known as ProvenCare, which is a program designed to enhance patient care and improve outcomes by standardizing best practices and ensuring adherence to evidence-based guidelines. ProvenCare was initially applied to cardiac surgery and has since been expanded to other areas. In March 2012, Geisinger Health System opened a new state-of-the-art facility on Woodbine Lane in Danville, PA.
