Changchun

On March 9, 1932, the state of Manchukuo was officially declared in Changchun, a city that became the capital of this new puppet state created by Imperial Japan in northeastern China. The establishment followed Japan's invasion of Manchuria and was part of Japan's imperial ambitions in Asia. Manchukuo served as a key military industrial base for Japan and was ruled by the deposed Qing dynasty emperor Puyi as a puppet leader.

After the defeat of Japan in World War II, the Soviet Union occupied Changchun in August 1945. The occupation of Changchun by Soviet forces marked a significant shift in control, as this was a prelude to the eventual establishment of Communist rule in China. The Changchun Light Rail Transit system began operations on September 2, 2009, marking a key development in the city's public transportation.
