On 27th January 2020, Andy Cole launched an initiative focused on promoting kidney health awareness. Following his own experiences with kidney issues, Cole dedicated significant efforts to raise awareness about the importance of kidney health and the critical need for organ donations. He aimed to educate the public on recognizing kidney-related health issues and supporting those undergoing similar battles.

On 6th April 2017, Andy Cole underwent a kidney transplant surgery. The operation was necessary due to a condition known as FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) that Cole had been battling. The transplant was a success, and Cole became an advocate for kidney health awareness, using his platform to promote education about the importance of kidney health and organ donation.

On 27th October 2010, Andy Cole was awarded an Honorary Degree from Teesside University in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sport, particularly his contribution to football and his work with youth. The degree marked a recognition of not only his success on the pitch but also his efforts in mentoring and inspiring young players. This honor underscored Cole's legacy off the pitch.
