Airbus Industrie was formally established as a consortium of European aerospace manufacturers to compete with American companies like Boeing. The founding members were Aerospatiale of France and Deutsche Aerospace AG (now part of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace) of Germany. This marked a pivotal moment in aviation history as Europe collaborated to challenge the dominance of the United States in commercial aircraft production.

The Airbus A320 family, a series of narrow-body airliners, made its maiden flight on October 21, 1988. It introduced fly-by-wire flight control systems in a commercial aircraft for the first time, setting a new standard in aviation technology. The A320 was designed for efficiency and short to medium-haul routes, quickly becoming one of the best-selling aircraft families worldwide.

The Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger airliner, took its first flight from Toulouse, France, on April 27, 2005. This double-decker aircraft was designed to challenge the dominance of the Boeing 747 in long-haul flights and offered unprecedented passenger capacity with innovations in in-flight comfort and design.

The Airbus A380 entered commercial service on October 25, 2007, with Singapore Airlines, flying from Singapore to Sydney. This marked a milestone in aviation history, offering luxurious amenities and higher capacity compared to other aircraft at the time. The introduction was celebrated worldwide as a leap in passenger air travel experience and technological advancement.

In December 2013, EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company), the parent company of Airbus, officially changed its name to Airbus Group. This rebranding marked a strategic move to unify its operations, focusing on its core strengths in commercial aviation, defense, and space sectors, and enhancing its global brand recognition.

In January 2016, Airbus Helicopters underwent a major reorganization to streamline its operations and enhance its competitiveness. This involved revamping its management structure and aligning its product development with the latest market demands. The reorganization aimed to strengthen Airbus Helicopters' position as a global leader in the rotary-wing aircraft market.

On February 14, 2019, Airbus announced it would end production of the A380 by 2021 due to lack of demand and airlines favoring more fuel-efficient aircraft. This decision marked the end of an era for the iconic superjumbo, which faced challenges from the evolving dynamics of the aviation market, which shifted towards smaller and more economic models.

On January 29, 2020, Airbus agreed to pay a $4 billion fine to the United States, United Kingdom, and France after admitting to bribery and corruption charges. The settlement involved bribes paid to secure plane orders and marked one of the largest-ever corporate corruption settlements related to international business practices, impacting its corporate governance and compliance measures.

In July 2021, Airbus secured a major order from United Airlines for 70 A321neo aircraft, highlighting the airline's confidence in the efficiency and performance of the A321neo. This order was part of United Airlines' strategy to modernize its fleet, meeting demand for more fuel-efficient operations and boosting Airbus's position in the single-aisle market segment.

On June 19, 2023, Air India placed a record order of 250 Airbus aircraft, including 140 A320neo, 70 A321neo, and 40 A350s, as part of its fleet expansion and modernization program. This marked a significant milestone for Airbus, strengthening its presence in the Indian aviation market, and reflecting the growing demand for advanced and efficient aircraft models in the region.
