Wode Maya

Berthold Kobina Ackon popularly known as Wode Maya is a Ghanaian YouTuber born on August 27, 1990, in Kofikrom in the Western Region of Ghana.

Wode Maya departed from Ghana in 2012 upon completing his secondary school education, with the aim of pursuing higher education in China.

Originally, he had secured a scholarship and intended to study in the UK. However, due to visa complications, Maya's plan to study in the UK failed, prompting him to redirect his path towards China.

Consequently, he gained admission to Shenyang Aerospace University, where he embarked on his academic journey in the field of Aeronautical Engineering.

Wode Maya began his YouTube journey in 2017 when he embarked on a solo trip from China to Ghana, documenting his experiences along the way. His early videos gained attention for their authenticity, humour, and insightful commentary on the challenges and triumphs he encountered during his travels. He quickly amassed a dedicated following and earned the nickname "Mr. Changing the Negative Narrative About Africa."

Wode Maya is the first Ghanaian Youtuber to hit 1 million subscribers. His YouTube videos document his journey in countries such as Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, and many more. His videos showcase a wide range of topics, including African cuisine, tourism, cultural traditions, infrastructure development, and entrepreneurship. He highlights both the challenges and opportunities that exist on the continent, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration to drive progress.

Wode Maya surprised his followers by revealing his union with Trudy, his Kenyan girlfriend and fellow video blogger. According to Wode Maya, their love story began three years ago when they crossed paths in Ethiopia while collaborating on a video project.

Wode Maya said although their wedding ceremony took place on September 10, 2022, in Kenya, he chose to commemorate this significant milestone as his 1000th video on YouTube. Additionally, he dedicated the video to Trudy, whose mother passed away precisely a decade ago.

Wode Maya briefly lost his account to a hacker who changed the name of the page of 1.26 million subscribers from Wode Maya to Microstrategy. The hacker deleted all the videos.

He later recovered his channel and restored the content of millions of views.
