Early life

He attended Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast for five years of secondary school before earning his General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Certificate in 1970. After graduating from Mfantsipim School,he was accepted into the 1970–1972 Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi. After finishing, he received his Advanced Level Certificate.

Vice Admiral Quashie enrolled in the Ghana Military Academy. He traveled to the UK to complete his basic military officer training there. At the Britannia Royal Naval College, he enrolled and graduated in 1974. In July 1974, he returned to Ghana and was appointed Sub-Lieutenant in the Ghana Navy's Executive Branch.

Vice Admiral Quashie was sworn in as the Chief of the Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces on March 28, 2013, by President John Dramani Mahama, who also serves as the military's commander in chief.He took over for Lt. Gen. Peter Blay. Vice Admiral Quarshie previously held the position of Chief of Naval Staff. Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro received his transfer.
