University of Southern California

The University of Southern California (USC) was founded on October 6, 1880, in Los Angeles, California. It was established by a group of public-spirited citizens with a mission to create an institution reflective of both the opportunities and challenges of its region. USC was the first private research university in California and has grown to become a leading institution in various fields, offering undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees.

The University of Southern California established its School of Cinematic Arts in 1904, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious film schools in the world. In 2011, legendary filmmaker George Lucas made a historic gift of $1 billion to the University of Southern California, marking one of the largest donations in the university's history. The gift supported the institution's endowment and ensured continued excellence in its programs, particularly benefiting the School of Cinematic Arts, which Lucas himself attended.

The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism established the Annenberg Media Center in 2016 to serve as a hub for student journalism.
