Thomas Nyarko Ampem was born on February 14, 1978, in the tranquil town of Anum, Ghana.

Education

Ampem completed SSCE (Senior Secondary Certificate Examination) in 1994. He later acquired a Teacher Certificate in Social Studies from Peki Training College in 1998. His educational achievements include an MSC in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University in the USA and MSc (Finance) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2010.

Political career

Ampem's political career is distinguished by his affiliation with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a prominent political party in Ghana. In the 2016 election, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured a total of 20,493 votes, which accounted for 51.87% of the votes cast. His main rival, Kwame Adu-Darkwa from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 18,668 votes, constituting 47.25% of the vote share. Michael Nkansah Yaw, an independent candidate, garnered 257 votes, making up 0.65% of the total votes.

In the most recent election, Mr. Thomas Ampem Nyarko achieved a remarkable milestone by securing his seat as the Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency. This re-election marked an extraordinary feat, making him the first MP in the Asuogyaman Constituency to be re-elected for a second consecutive term since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.

2020 election results 

In a tightly contested race, Ampem garnered 24,439 votes, narrowly surpassing his main contender, Mr. Paul Asare Ansah of the New Patriotic Party, a former Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GHAPOHA), who received 23,201 votes. The total number of votes cast was 47,640 out of the expected 48,073 on the register, with 433 rejected ballots.
