Muntari had some disciplinary issues, including being sent home from the Olympic side in 2004 and being suspended during the 2010 African Cup of Nations. Despite these incidents, he was selected for the 2010 World Cup, where he scored a goal in the quarter-final against Uruguay. In the 2014 World Cup, he was sent home and suspended for disciplinary reasons.
