Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku is a Ghanaian politician and an MP representing the Domeabra-Obom Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
Born on October 7, 1972, in Ackuaku.She is a native of Anyako in Ghana's Volta Region. Ackuaku has received extensive training, and the Ghana Institute of Journalism has awarded her a certificate in public relations, advertising, and marketing.She also holds a social work certification from the School of Social Work in Osu-Accra and a certificate in Dutch language competency from Rotterdam, Holland's Zadkine College.Ackuaku also has a certificate from the Ark Foundation in Ghana in leadership, human rights, and HIV/AIDS.
In the 2016 general elections in Ghana, Sohia ran for and ultimately won the parliamentary seat for the Domeabra-Obom Constituency. She was up against Pius Kwame Fiakuna, an independent; Darison Barba Mohammed, of the New Patriotic Party; Ekow Jones Mensah, of the Convention People's Party; and Gideon Dudu, of the Progressive People's Party. Out of the 21,506 votes cast, she received 14,301, or 68.3 percent, of the total valid votes cast, winning the election.She now participates in both the Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee and the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee.
Ackuaku has extensive professional experience, including positions on the Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee and the Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs Committee in the Ghanaian parliament. She previously served as the deputy executive director at the Ghana National Service Scheme and as the managing director of Eligreen/Amsos Ghana Limited.
Sophia is married with five cheildren.
