Saskatoon

On July 1, 1882, the Temperance Colonization Society of Ontario officially founded the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This was part of a larger movement of settlement in Canada during this period, as the Canadian West was opened up for agricultural development. The society, looking to establish a settlement in the Canadian Prairies, selected the area where Saskatoon is now located. The settlement was founded with the ideals of temperance and sobriety, aiming to create a community free from alcohol.
