Reggie Rockstone (Reginald Yaw Asante Osei, "the Godfather of Hiplife") is a Ghanaian rapper. He was born in the United Kingdom but lived his early years in Kumasi and Accra. He has been living in Ghana continuously since he pioneered the Hip-Life movement in 1994.

Early life and music career

Reggie Rockstone, originally Reginald Osei, began his involvement in the Hip Hop movement as a dancer in the early 80s, expanding his Hip Hop horizons through travel between Accra, New York, and London. Transitioning into rapping in 1991, his first taste of fame came as a dancer in Accra, followed by a significant opportunity with the rap group PLZ in London in 1992-93, leading him to return to Accra in 1994, where he encountered a new generation embracing African-American rhythms and the elements of Hip Hop he knew.

Reggie Rockstone skillfully incorporated hip hop beats and authentic African dialect, particularly the Akan language of Twi, to create popular tracks like "Sweetie, Sweetie," "Tsoo Boi," "Nightlife in Accra," and "Agoo" on his debut album "Makaa! Maka!" released in 1997. As the pioneer of hiplife or "Kasahara music" in Ghana, he has gained international acclaim and performed across continents including West Africa, the UK, France, USA, and Switzerland, while also declaring retirement and subsequent comebacks throughout his career.
