Growing up as cousins in Tema, Ghana, Faisal Hakeem and Rashid Mugeez developed a passion for music at a young age. Their bond and shared interest in music led them to form R2Bees in 2007, where they began representing their school in rap competitions and inter-school music contests. Inspired by various musical genres like hip-hop, highlife, and reggae, the duo aimed to create a distinct sound that would resonate with their indigenous listeners.

In 2008, R2Bees released their debut album "Yawa Gal," featuring hit singles "I Dey Mad," "T.E.M.A," and "Yawa Girl." The album's success catapulted the duo to prominence within the Ghanaian music scene, gaining them a substantial fanbase across Africa. Their fusion of various musical influences showcased their versatility and creativity, setting them apart from other emerging artists.

In 2010, R2Bees collaborated with Nigerian superstar Wande Coal on the track "Kiss Your Hand," further expanding their reach beyond Ghana's borders. Their second studio album, "Refuse to Be Broke – Da Revolution II," released in 2013, featured hit songs like "Ajeii," "Life (Walaahi)," and "Bayla Trap." The album's success brought them critical acclaim and numerous awards.

The duo's musical prowess earned them a nomination for the Best International Act at the 2013 BET Awards, solidifying their status as African music ambassadors.

R2Bees' music predominantly features lyrics in Twi and Pidgin, allowing them to connect deeply with their native audience. They are prominent purveyors of Ghanaian hip-hop subgenre hiplife, which blends rap with the sounds of highlife and reggae. Their unique style and infectious beats have earned them recognition as a distinctive voice in the African music landscape.

Throughout their career, R2Bees has released several successful albums, including "Da Revolution I" (2009), "Da Revolution II: Refuse to be Broke" (2012), "Omar Sterling – Victory Through Harmony" (2017), "Site 15" (2019), and "Back 2 Basics" (2021). Their music has garnered widespread acclaim and multiple awards, cementing their place as one of Ghana's biggest recording artists.
