Plano

The city of Plano, Texas, was officially incorporated on June 2, 1872. This incorporation marked the formal establishment of Plano as a recognized municipality within the state of Texas. In its early years, Plano was primarily a farming community. In January 1999, the city of Plano, Texas, was recognized by multiple publications as one of the best cities in the United States for affordable housing. This accolade was due to the city’s efforts in providing a balanced mix of affordable and quality housing options for its residents. Legacy Town Center, a major mixed-use development, was completed on October 24, 2009. This area transformed the landscape of Plano, offering a harmonious blend of residential, office, and retail spaces. It has since attracted both national and global businesses, enhancing Plano's status as a business and innovation hub. Legacy Town Center is considered a model for sustainable urban development that supports a vibrant community life.

The Plano Arts Center of Excellence officially opened its doors on May 12, 2014. This facility was designed to provide a dedicated space for the community to experience and engage with the arts, offering everything from theater productions to art exhibitions. The Arts Center has become a cultural cornerstone of Plano, enhancing the city's reputation for fostering a vibrant arts scene that supports both local and regional artists.

In November 2016, Toyota moved its North American headquarters to Plano, Texas, bringing numerous job opportunities and significant economic growth to the city. This relocation was part of Toyota's strategy to consolidate its various operations in one central location. The move to Plano has strengthened the local economy and solidified the city's reputation as a major hub for business and commerce, attracting other multinational companies to consider Plano for their operations.

In March 2020, the city of Plano, Texas, began implementing measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city government, along with local health authorities, worked to provide resources, information, and support to residents and businesses affected by the pandemic. These efforts included public health campaigns, economic relief programs, and community support initiatives aimed at mitigating the spread of the virus and supporting those in need during the crisis.

The Plano Independent School District launched its new Environmental Education Center on May 25, 2022.
