Early life

Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, born to parents from Egba Alake, had a childhood in Kano and discovered his passion for acting after attending Chief Hubert Ogunde's concert party, leading him to study acting in England at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts; he then went on to have a successful career in British television and international films in the 1970s and 1980s before becoming a prominent figure in Nollywood, starring in over 120 Nigerian films and earning recognition as one of the top actors in the industry.

Accolades

At the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Olu Jacobs received the esteemed Industry Merit Award in recognition of his remarkable contributions to acting, and in August 2022, he and his wife were bestowed with an icon award and membership certificate by the Audio-Visual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS).

Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, also known as Olu Jacobs, has been married to Nollywood actress Joke Silva since 1989, and they have children together; despite being married, Joke Silva has chosen to retain her maiden name as she values her individual identity, and rumors of Olu Jacobs' death in 2021 were debunked when he attended the Afriff event and received the Lifetime Achievement Award, but his wife later revealed in an interview that he is battling Dementia with Lewy bodies.
