Mustapha Ussif is a Ghanaian politician who serves as a Member of Parliament for the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency in the North East Region.

Early life and education

Born on August 16, 1979, in Tantaala, Northern Region, Ghana, Mustapha Ussif attended Bagabaga Teacher Training College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Business and Management from Anglia Ruskin University in 2010. He later obtained a master's degree in Finance and Investment from the University of Gloucestershire in 2011.

In 2010, Ussif served as an Investment Analyst at Ray and Associates, UK, and during the same year, he also worked as a Freelance Consultant at Action Aid UK.

Ussif first entered parliament on January 7, 2013, as a New Patriotic Party member, defeating the incumbent MP Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim. He represented the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency in the 6th parliament until 2017. However, he was unsuccessful in his reelection bid for the 7th parliament in the 2016 Ghanaian general election, losing to his previous opponent Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim of the National Democratic Congress. During his time in the 6th parliament, he served on the Mines and Energy Committee and the Standing Orders Committee.

In 2017, he was appointed as the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme by President Nana Akufo-Addo during his first term in office.

Minister of Youth and Sports

After reclaiming the Yagaba-Kubori Constituency seat in 2020, Ussif was nominated by President Nana Akufo-Addo on January 21, 2021, to become the Minister of Youth and Sports during his second term. Following successful vetting in the Parliament of Ghana, he was sworn into office on March 5, 2021, along with 27 other minister-designates at the Jubilee House, Accra.
