Mavis Hawa Koomson is a Ghanaian politician and educationist, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency.
Koomson is a native of Salaga, Ghana's Savannah Region.She attended the Bimbilla Training College for her training college degree. She graduated from the University of Winneba with a Basic Education diploma and a bachelor's degree. She has a master's degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), as well as a postgraduate diploma in public administration (CPA) and a postgraduate diploma in public administration (DPA).
Koomson was a teacher by trade and held a number of posts, including principal superintendent, assistant superintendent, and head teacher. She served as secretary for GNATLAS (Takoradi local), treasurer for GNATLAS (Western Region), and head of the gender unit of the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Association (GNATLAS), Sekondi local.
Koomson is a New Patriotic Party member. She now serves as the representative for Ghana's Central Region's Awutu Senya East Constituency.
Mavis Hawa Koomson was one of the nineteen ministers that President Nana Akufo-Addo named in May 2017 to make up his cabinet. She presently serves as the minister responsible for developing fisheries and aquaculture.
She received 57,114 votes, or 52.6% of the total votes cast, to win the Awutu Senya East Constituency parliamentary seat in Ghana's 2020 general elections. The NDC's Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor received 51,561 votes, or 47.5% of the total votes cast.
She organized the Kasoa MP's Cup, an annual soccer tournament for young people in her district.For the Kasoa Bethel Methodist Church, Koomson built a church hall in 2021.
