Josiah Ofori Boateng is a Ghanaian judge who served on the Supreme Court of Ghana from 1999 to 2001
He was born on 4 January 1931and hails from Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana
He received secondary and tertiary education at Achimota School and University College of the Gold Coast, earning a Bachelor of Laws degree. He joined the English and Ghanaian bars in 1963 and 1965.
Ofori Boateng started as an Assistant State Attorney in Sekondi-Takoradi and later joined Gaisie, Scheck and Company.
Boateng went back into public service in the latter part of 1966 and was appointed a district magistrate
He accepted a position in the United Nations Environmental Program's Environmental Law Unit as a Senior Programme Officer in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1976.
He held this position until 1981.Boateng went back to Ghana in that year and was appointed the Director of Legal Education (the director of the Ghana School of Law).
Boateng was appointed and sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Appeal in September 1989.
Kwadwo Afari-Gyan served as Boateng's deputy when he was named chairman of Ghana's electoral commission in March 1992. As the commission's chair, Boateng oversaw the conduct of the 1992 general election, a referendum on a new constitution, and the election's outcomes. Prior to his return to the Court of Appeal in 1993, he served as the commission's chairman.
He and Justice John Debra Sapong were both nominated to the Supreme Court bench in 1999.
Ofori Boateng was wed to attorney and member of the Constitutional Review Commission Sabina Ofori Boateng. He enjoys writing about law, working on his poultry farm, and listening to classical music in his own time.He is Ernest Amano Boateng's brother, who served as the University of Cape Coast's first vice chancellor.
