Her mother, Adebimbola Silva, was a respected medical doctor, while her father pursued a career in law. Joke completed her primary education in Lagos before attending Holy Child College. Later, she enrolled at the University of Lagos, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in English Language. Seeking to enhance her acting skills, Joke Silva furthered her education at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, United Kingdom.

Joke Silva's professional acting career took off in the early 1990s when she joined Nollywood. Her debut film, "Mind Bending," marked the beginning of an illustrious journey that would see her become one of the most respected actresses in Nigeria. With over 250 Nollywood movies to her credit, Joke Silva has demonstrated her versatility in portraying various roles, particularly as a mother, wife, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

Her breakthrough role came in 1998, when she starred alongside Colin Firth and Nia Long in the British-Canadian film "The Secret Laughter of Women."
