Birth and early career

Boye, an Accra native, started his playing career alongside Mohammed Iddi at Schwepps' youth program. He then played for the Pro Consult Sports program and Miracle FC.

After a two-week trial, Boye signed for Stade Rennais. He originally joined Rennes on loan from Ghana Premier League team Heart of Lions with the option to purchase, and he left for Heart of Lions.

Boye had long been a goal for Rennes, but an early effort to get him in 2009 was unsuccessful due to rumors that he had already signed a contract with the Israeli team Hapoel Petach Tikva.

Boye was called up for Ghana, making his debut against Gabon.Boye was included in the Ghana national team's 23-man squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, and he made his tournament debut in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations match against Botswana. He was part of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations team that took a silver medal after they lost to Ivory Coast in an 8-9 penalty shootout.
