Joe Ghartey is a Ghanaian lawyer, academic, and politician. He was a former Attorney-General of Ghana.

Early life and education

Joe Ghartey was born in Takoradi, Ghana.He was raised and went to elementary and senior school in Takoradi. He continued his education by studying law at the University of Ghana, where he received his degree in 1986. Later, in 1988, he completed his studies at the Ghana School of Law to become a barrister at law.

Ghartey joined the New Patriotic Party in 1992, inspired by its values of freedom, democracy, human rights, rule of law, and private sector development. He served as Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Disciplinary Committee.

Ghartey completed his National Service as a legal officer for the Komenda Eguafo Abirem District Assembly in Ghana. He later joined the Sekondi law firm and Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co., co-founded by Nana Akufo-Addo. He co-founded Ghartey & Ghartey with his wife, Efua. He currently holds Senior Partner at the reputable law firm.

She is also president of the Greater Accra Ghana Bar Association and a member of the New Patriotic Party.
