Jerry Moran

Jerry Moran was born on May 29, 1954, in Great Bend, Kansas. He grew up in Plainville, Kansas, and became involved in his community from an early age. After graduating from Plainville High School, he attended Fort Hays State University and later graduated from the University of Kansas, School of Law. Moran's upbringing in rural Kansas significantly influenced his political career.

Jerry Moran was first elected to the United States House of Representatives on November 5, 1996. He represented Kansas's 1st congressional district, commonly known as the 'Big First' district, which covers much of the western and northern parts of Kansas. During his tenure in the House, Moran focused on agricultural, health care, and veterans' issues, among other priorities.

Following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Jerry Moran supported key legislation related to the War on Terror, including measures to enhance homeland security and military preparedness.
