Irene Dwomoh was a nineteen (19) year old Bachelor of Science Student at the University of Capecoast (UCC) when she entered the Miss Ghana pageant.
As the first-ever visually impaired woman to win the prestigious beauty pageant, she challenged perceptions around disability and paved the way for greater inclusion in the country. Born blind in one eye and with severely impaired vision in the other, Irene had to navigate the challenges of growing up with a disability in Ghana.
During her reign as Miss Ghana, Irene used her platform to advocate for disability rights and raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities in Ghana. She also launched the Irene Dwomoh Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting visually impaired and disabled individuals across the country.
Irene Dwomoh represented Ghana at the Miss World 2007 pageant. Even though she did not won the crown, she captivated the hearts of the audience and the judges and won the Miss World Talent award beating all 106 participants. She was eliminated at the semi-final stage.
