On October 29, 2018, Imperial College London launched its White City Campus, a major new development aimed at creating a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and research. This campus was designed to enhance collaborative opportunities with industry and academia, offering state-of-the-art facilities for students and researchers across various disciplines. It represented Imperial's commitment to expanding its impact and fostering a dynamic ecosystem that bridges academia and real-world applications.

The Global Challenge Institute initiative was launched on January 22, 2013, by Imperial College London. The initiative sought to address world issues through interdisciplinary research, involving numerous experts in diverse areas such as environment, healthcare, and energy. It aimed to develop sustainable solutions to complex global problems, emphasizing collaboration between scientists, engineers, and policymakers.

The Imperial College Business School was opened in 2007, further diversifying the academic offerings of the university. The establishment of the business school reflected a growing need to integrate business and management sciences with technological and scientific education. In 2007, Imperial College London celebrated its centenary. On 4 July 2005, Imperial College London became completely independent of the University of London. The decision to become an independent university was motivated by Imperial's desire to pursue its own academic and strategic goals, gaining full control over awarding its degrees. This move allowed Imperial to increase its international reputation and further solidify its status as a leading global institution for education and research in science and technology.

In 1998, Imperial College London established the Imperial College School of Medicine by merging with several other medical institutions. This was a strategic move to consolidate medical education and research under a single pioneering institution, providing comprehensive training and state-of-the-art facilities to medical students and researchers. The school has since become a leading center for medical education in the UK.

On 16 May 1997, Imperial College London merged with Wye College, an agricultural college in Kent. This merger was part of Imperial's strategy to broaden its expertise in agricultural and environmental sciences. Wye College brought with it a long history and a strong reputation in these fields, and the merger intended to enhance research opportunities and educational programs across both institutions.

In 1976, Imperial College London established its Faculty of Medicine, amalgamating several existing medical departments and institutes. Imperial College London was formed on 8 July 1907 by Royal Charter, integrating the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds College. This creation marked the establishment of a new university institution designed to enhance scientific and technical education and research. The college focused on science, engineering, and medicine, setting itself apart as a unique institution in Britain with a strong emphasis on these fields.
